Polish Enigma Breakthrough and the usual unrecognition

December 31, 1932, is considered a breakthrough date when Polish mathematicians broke (Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki, and Henryk Zygalski) broke the Enigma code.

Poles owe their success to a different approach to the issue of breaking ciphers.

As usual, they would not be recognized like their other countrymen.

December 31, 1932, is considered a breakthrough date when Polish mathematicians broke (Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki, and Henryk Zygalski) broke the Enigma code.

Poles owe their success to a different approach to the issue of breaking ciphers.

In January 1929, a cryptology course was organized at the University of Poznań, intended mainly for students of mathematics who know German.

The choice of the Poznań university was not accidental because due to the city's location, knowledge of German was shared there.

For the course, whose lecturers were commuters from Warsaw, Major Franciszek Pokorny, Captain Maksymilian Ciężki and Antoni Palluth, the three most talented students of professor Zdzisław Krygowski were referred - Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski.

Poles were hardly acknowledged for this massive breakthrough, which seems to be the norm.  This is not the only example of Poles being treated with less respect than they deserved. Polish pilots had the highest kill rates in the Battle of Britain, fought bravely in the North African, Italian, and Normandy campaigns, and were involved in the Battle for Berlin. Despite these repeated demonstrations of loyalty, Poland was banned from participating in the official V-E Day celebrations.

Polish codebreakers Zygalski and Rejewsk ultimately ended up in England with the army. They tried to join the Bletchley codebreakers, but no one wanted to acknowledge the team existed for some reason.

Polish codebreakers have been unrecognized for decades and their immense efforts ignored.  Indeed without them, the codebreaking would have been impossible, and the reality is, the war would have probably lasted longer.  This is a case of honor theft.  In the US, we call this "Stolen Valor."

The British should be appalled, and I think now they are starting to recognize this by embarrassment because the facts have come out, and they can't be challenged.

Zyglaski went on to teach math at the University of Surrey.

Poland donated decryption machines built by Poles to Britain and France for free.

I am using this platform to continue the battle against revisionism and propaganda. Poland fought and suffered and are now being attacked in a variety of ways for various agendas.

In the name of historical accuracy and truth, we must respond.
