Michał Zygo ”Szymon”, born in 1917, fought in the September campaign and was involved in the underground resistance.
After the war he joined the Polish Workers’ Party to spy on the Polish communists and the Soviet agents in the area of Rzeszów. He was arrested on 7 September 1947.
Brutally tortured during the investigation, he was sentenced to death and executed on 31 January 1949 at Rzeszów Castle.
On 7 September 2015, the team led by Prof. Krzysztof Szwagrzyk, IPN’s Deputy President, discovered the remains of Michał Zygo at the cemetery of Zwięczyca.
