On the eve of the invasion and into the invasion as Jan Karski reports many of Poland’s minorities actively and openly collaborated with the Soviet Union in very welcoming and then aggressive manners. Some of this was barbaric torture and is unknown in the west.
In such places as Brzostowica, Grodno, Skidel, Zborow, Luboml, Kolomyja, Rozyszcza, Izbica, Stiepan, Byten, and other places crimes occurred against ethnic Poles. This also led to a deportation of an estimated 1.7 million ethnic Poles – 1/4th never returned.
So we can actually consider these, in my opinion, as “pograms” against ethnic Poles, the same kind that we hear referenced today against Jews because it was the minorities’ intention to remove the people from the territory by whatever means necessary.
