Helena Plotnicka brought food, medications and mail into the Auschwitz camp, smuggled prisoners’ reports and letters out, among others Witold Pilecki’s report. She died in Auschwitz of typhoid on March 17, 1944.

She secretly baked bread to carry each night 10 miles to Auschwitz, stashed it for prisoners, then home again to raise five kids and build her cottage. How many she save before the Gestapo caught her in 1943?
